Swap Inflammatory Vegetable Oils for Heart & Brain Healthy Coconut Oil
We were all told that vegetable oils were more healthy than other fats and the best oil to cook in right? Well we’ve all been lied to and it’s causing havoc with our health.
Vegetable oils are an unnatural, processed substance that causes inflammation in our bodies due to the very high Omega 6 fatty acids they contain. For optimal health our bodies should get roughly a 1:1 ratio of omega 3 to omega 6 fatty acids but the prevalence of omega 6 in the standard diet has caused this ratio to shift way too far in the wrong direction. This change, perhaps more than any other dietary factor, has contributed to the epidemic of modern disease.
So What Should You Use?
By far the best oil you can use for cooking is raw, cold pressed coconut oil. As mentioned in a previous article, coconut oil contains something called Medium Chain Triglycerides or MCTs. These are fantastic for your brain! Coconut oil also has a high smoking point meaning that you can fry food in it without it converting in to potentially dangerous chemicals caused by oxidation. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg as coconut oil has a whole host of other benefits!
Another option is butter from grass-fed (or pastured) cows. Again don’t believe all the rubbish about saturated fat being bad for you because this has now been shown to be a complete lie and saturated fat is in fact very good for you! Do not use butter made from cows that have been brought up on a non-organic, grain based diet as these animals tend to get sick due to the diet being incorrect for their bodies (but great for the farmer as it fattens them up nicely!) and are often given anti-biotics just to keep them alive. The resulting milk & meat then contains antibiotics and other chemicals you do not want to be ingesting.
