What is Non Exercise Activity Thermogenesis (NEAT)?

N.E.A.T. is the term used to define all the movement that we make outside of a bout of forced exercise (e.g. running, cycling, weight lifting, swimming, etc.).

Recent scientific analysis of multiple studies have suggested that Non Exercise Activity Thermogenesis is possibly more important in obtaining or maintaining a healthy body composition and combating obesity (and therefore type II diabetes) than “exercise” (which we have already calculated as being a tiny percentage of the average person’s waking hours).

Obviously it’s near impossible to increase the amount of fidgeting you do because this is a subconscious activity and the minute you stop concentrating on doing more of it you will go back to your baseline level.

So we have developed the Micro Workouts series of posts to show you how to increase your levels of Non Exercise Activity Thermogenesis in a methodical and achievable way.
